WWE Champion John Cena vs. CM Punk Viewer's Choice Match ended in a No Contest

The WWE Universe chose CM Punk to face WWE Champion John Cena in the night's main event. Although Cena was gaining the upper hand against the masked leader of the Straight Edge Society, the match was cut short when last season’s NXT Rookies – led by season one winner Wade Barrett – charged the ring and laid waste to everything and everyone in sight. Following the mayhem, a battered Cena was carted out on a stretcher.

Kane def. Sheamus in a Viewer's Choice Match

Sheamus’ Irish eyes are locked on John Cena’s WWE Championship, and, no, they’re not smiling. But before The Celtic Warrior faces off against Cena, Randy Orton and Edge at Fatal 4-Way on June 20, the WWE Universe decided that he must first get through Kane unscathed. The Big Red Machine won the Viewer's Choice decision by a wide margin, capturing 88 percent of the vote.

Suspecting that his opponent might somehow be responsible for incapacitating his brother, The Undertaker, Kane unloaded on Sheamus with a series of vicious physical attacks. Although Sheamus twice escaped The Big Red Monster's chokeslam, the third time wasn't the charm for the Irish Superstar, who chose to fight another day and allowed himself to be counted out.

Rey Mysterio won the SmackDown Battle Royal and qualified for the World Heavyweight Championship Match at Fatal-4-Way

SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long sent shockwaves throughout the WWE Universe, informing SmackDown that over Memorial Day weekend, The Undertaker was found by his brother Kane “in a vegetative state,” following a vicious assault of unknown origins.

Since The Deadman will no longer be able to be part of the World Heavyweight Championship Match at Fatal 4-Way, the quick-thinking GM determined that every Superstar on the roster would have an opportunity to take his place in a special SmackDown Battle Royal.

When the smoke cleared in the high-stakes match of mayhem, it was Rey Mysterio who stood in triumph. Ironically, out of all the Superstars that fought for the coveted championship opportunity, it was The Demon of Death Valley’s brother Kane whose feet were destined to hit the floor last. Just when it looked as if The Big Red Monster was ready to hurl Mysterio from the ring with the chokeslam, The Ultimate Underdog countered, sending the frightening Superstar over the top rope and out to the arena floor.

As a result of his monumental victory, Mysterio will take the vacant spot in the SmackDown World Title main event at Fatal 4-Way in just more than two weeks.

WWE Champion John Cena & Evan Bourne def. Edge & Sheamus

Edge thinks he just sooooo clever. The Ultimate Opportunist thought he had outsmarted his tag team opponents, WWE Champion John Cena & Randy Orton, by hammering The Viper’s shoulder in an ambush prior to the match. Instead of forfeit, The Champ chose a new partner, Evan Bourne, to team with him against Edge & Sheamus.

As anyone who’s ever faced Bourne knows, his athleticism and fearlessness make him an unpredictable foe. Once in the match, the intrepid Bourne refused to give up, kicking out of several near pinfalls.

When Bourne was able to contact his partner, The Champ rushed in and targeted his Irish antagonist. After a powerful back and forth, Cena tossed Sheamus from atop his shoulders and tagged in "Air" Bourne, who landed a devastating Shooting Star Press and covered the Irishman for the victory.

The Undertaker def. Rey Mysterio in a Fatal 4-Way Qualifying Match

Making his return to Friday night, Undertaker battled Rey Mysterio for an opportunity to compete at Fatal 4-Way. Going into the match, both Superstars knew that Big Show and CM Punk already qualified to square off with World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger. Despite a formidable fight from Mysterio, The Deadman ultimately triumphed with the Tombstone.

Edge def. WWE Champion John Cena and Chris Jericho in a Non-Title Fatal 4-Way Qualifying Match

It was a do-or-die moment for both Edge and Chris Jericho. In their Triple Threat Fatal 4-Way Qualifying Match with John Cena, if either Edge or Jericho were to win, they would move on to the WWE Championship Fatal 4-Way Match next month. If The Champ were to prevail, however, neither Superstar would be eligible.

Knowing how much hung in the balance, The Ultimate Opportunist seized an opening by dropping Jericho with a Spear and covering him for the victory.

As he celebrated, the night’s other qualifiers, Sheamus and Randy Orton, made their presence felt, leaving all four Fatal 4-Way competitors staring down one another in a preview of mayhem to come.
