Armageddon 2008 (Preview)

Preview: World Heavyweight Champion John Cena Vs. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho spent months kicking, clawing and cheating his way toward the World Heavyweight Championship.

Then, at Survivor Series, a booming John Cena FU took it all away.

With such a heartshattering loss, a conniving Jericho will likely stop at nothing to feel the gold once more in his hands. There’s little doubt that the man who first came to “Save Us” and now needs saving himself has already begun plotting his resurgence at Armageddon.

For Cena, a man who feels so passionately about competing, watching from the sidelines must have made three months ooze along like syrup in Siberia. That long, lengthy wait makes it impossible to think that Cena will give up at Armageddon without the fight of his life.

When these two diametrically opposed individuals – a man who feels he owes the WWE Universe everything and a man who feels he owes the WWE Universe nothing – clash in the ring, each is guaranteed to expend 100 percent to prove that he was right all along.

At Armageddon, newly-crowned WWE Champion Edge will defend his gold in a Triple Threat Match against Jeff Hardy and Triple H.

As a result of the events in the Beat the Clock Challenge on SmackDown – as first reported on WWE Mobile on AT&T (full story) – SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero conferred with WWE management and ruled that both Superstars are entitled to the opportunity against the Rated-R Superstar.

After taking the extreme road to earn his Survivor Series Triple Threat opportunity – overcoming first Undertaker and then Triple H – Jeff Hardy was robbed of his chance after being found unconscious in the stairwell of his Boston hotel. (full story)

The Ultimate Opportunist stunned the WWE Universe by returning at Survivor Series and taking Hardy’s vacant spot to capture the WWE Championship, pinning The Game amidst a whirlwind of chaos. Now that he has secured his favorite spot on top of SmackDown, Edge will do whatever it takes to stay there.

The Charismatic Enigma rebounded from his misfortune, scoring a huge victory over The Brian Kendrick in a Beat the Clock Challenge Match on SmackDown. However, Triple H refused to be denied. The King of Kings answered back later that night by conquering United States Champion Shelton Benjamin in exactly the same amount of time, opening the door for the three-way battle.

The irrepressible, extreme nature of Jeff Hardy and the insurmountable hunger of The Game are sure to come pounding on the door of the Ultimate Opportunist. The showdown between these three volatile Superstars is likely to come to an explosive end.

Preview: Batista Vs. Randy Orton

Since Randy Orton’s return to Raw, he and Batista have actively tried to one-up each other, with much of their enmity spinning out of the desire to be recognized as the top competitor on the program. Though they have faced one another in Triple Threat and Elimination contests, at Armageddon these two dominant ring warriors will attempt to settle the score one-on-one in their first pay-per-view singles match since their days together in Evolution.

At Survivor Series, the Superstars were captains of opposing teams in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match. Though The Animal showed his primal fury and rage, making liberal use of his Batista Bomb, it was the crafty Randy Orton that stole the win with a well-timed RKO to his opposing captain. Following the win, the Legend Killer was given a space in a No. 1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match, in which his involvement prevented Batista from being able to exercise his World Heavyweight Championship rematch clause.

But with these two athlete’s history, their clash is sure to be personal. Both Orton and Batista were part of one of the most dominant factions in WWE history, Evolution. Since the group’s less than amiable dissolution, however, these two Superstars have been denied the opportunity to face one-on-one. At Armageddon, they’ll be given that opportunity, but with Orton’s checkered past and tendency to bend the rules to their breaking point, will even the ferocity of The Animal be enough to stop him?

Find out which Superstar will prove himself dominant by watching Armageddon, live on Sunday, Dec. 14, only on pay-per-view.

Preview: ECW Champion Matt Hardy Vs. Vladimir Kozlov (Non-Title)

Vladimir Kozlov has been taught an important lesson as of late: If you mess with one Hardy, you have to deal with both of them.

The Moscow Mauler has been doing everything in his power to secure the WWE Championship. Although unsuccessful, he has proved that he can brawl with the best of them, including Jeff Hardy. That is, until he lost a Beat the Clock Match on the Nov. 28 edition of SmackDown against Jeff’s brother, Matt, who fought tirelessly for his flesh and blood to make sure Kozlov did not earn a chance to fight for the gold at Armageddon.

Since then, the Superstar who has never been pinned has been looking to take down ECW Champion Matt Hardy, not out of a hunger for gold, but out of a thirst for vengeance.

Hardy, arguably the most successful Superstar in the Land of the Extreme in recent months, is not one to turn down a challenge. Can he muster up what it takes to be the first Superstar to pin the Moscow Mauler? Or will Kozlov get his revenge on the Hardy brothers through Matt?

To witness all the action, catch Armageddon live, only on pay-per-view, this Sunday.

Preview: Finlay Vs. Mark Henry (Belfast Brawl)

On ECW, Mark Henry stated as elegantly as he could that because Finlay messed with his wrestling – his life – he intends on returning the favor.

The World’s Strongest Man and his WWE Hall of Famer associate, Tony Atlas, have done just that, stalking Finlay’s son, Hornswoggle, at every turn. The Irishman has fended off their attacks to the best of his abilities, but when it came time for the four Superstars to meet in tag team action, the World’s Strongest pair walked away with the win.

Finlay looks to settle this family matter once and for all at Armageddon as he takes on Henry with a major home field advantage, as they will do battle in a Belfast Brawl.

Will Finlay be able to protect his son in, and possibly out of the ring? Or will Henry and Atlas get payback for Finlay's interference in their agenda? Find out Sunday at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view.

Preview: Rey Mysterio Vs. CM Punk - Intercontinetal Tiltle Tournament Finals

For the past three weeks on Raw, an Intercontinental Title Tournament has raged. Now, where there were once eight Superstars, all hungry for an opportunity to compete for championship gold, only two remain: Rey Mysterio and World Tag Team Champion CM Punk. For the first time ever, at Armageddon, these two former World Champions will meet in the ring, with the winner going on to face William Regal for his Intercontinental Title.

Both Superstars have traveled a rough road to get to this point. Punk faced two Superstars with diametrically opposite styles, contending with the monstrous power of Snitsky, before going on to defeat the agile speed of John Morrison. Mysterio’s path was no easier however, as before he even entered the ring for his first match, he was attacked by the vicious Mike Knox. Fighting through an injured wrist, the Ultimate Underdog lived up to his name by defeating The Miz, and going on to beat World Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston.

The legendary high-flying Rey Mysterio has more experience than his younger competitor, but as of Monday night, he was still nursing his injury. And what the Straightedge Superstar may lack in experience, he more than makes up for in heart, as he has demonstrated numerous times in the past year by winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and becoming World Heavyweight Champion. Punk will also be fighting for his tag team partner, Kofi Kingston, who was eliminated from the tournament by Mysterio.

Though these formidable Superstars have fought on the same team together in the past, when they meet for the first time at Armageddon, there will be an opportunity to compete for championship gold at stake, meaning that all bets are off.

Find out who will go on to face Intercontinental Champion William Regal by watching Armageddon, live this Sunday, only on pay-per-view.
