World Heavyweight Champion John Cena taught Chris Jericho a lesson after hearing him disrespect various WWE Legends.
ST. LOUIS – Monday night's episode of Raw helped the Show Me State live up to her name ... and then some. Not only did Shane McMahon accept Randy Orton's challenge to a No Holds Barred Match at No Way Out, but his sister Stephanie vowed to bring Undertaker to Raw to battle the Legend Killer. Not only that, a disrespectful diatribe by Chris Jericho helped prompt the return of the legend Ric Flair, who will also be at next week's Raw. Wait for it ... wait for it ... Woooooo!
World Heavyweight Champion John Cena def. Chris Jericho; Ric Flair at Raw next week
Not only did Chris Jericho’s disrespectful diatribe against various WWE Legends provoke World Heavyweight Champion John Cena to raise his game in the ring and defeat Jericho in the name of those various legends, in yet another stunning turn of events, Jericho’s words also apparently raised the ire of the one and only Ric Flair, who promises to return to Raw next Monday night.
Stephanie McMahon announces Kane in Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out, Undertaker vs. Randy Orton next Monday on Raw
Visibly shaken from the earlier altercation with “Legacy,” Stephanie McMahon was seen talking with Kane. After he reassured her that his brother, Undertaker, would be at Raw next week, Stephanie announced that Kane was the sixth and final entrant in the World Heavyweight Title Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out. She went on to reveal that Randy Orton must face Undertaker next Monday night on Raw.
JBL proposes a match at No Way Out between him and Shawn Michaels; Michaels accepts
There are more than a few employees out there who would want nothing more than an opportunity to pummel their boss inside of a ring. For that reason alone, Shawn Michaels is a man to be envied. During an employee “performance appraisal,” the Longhorn Loudmouth taunted and berated HBK until, finally, he proposed that the two battle at No Way Out. If Michaels wins, the mouthy millionaire will release Michaels from his one-year contract and pay him in full. If HBK loses, however, JBL permanently secures the rights to Shawn Michaels’ name and all royalties associated therewith. To put an exclamation point on the proceedings, JBL slapped his employee across the face before leaving the ring.
Beth Phoenix def. Candice; Rosa Mendes assists The Glamazon
One thing about Rosa Mendes, the woman is consistent. Once again, The Glamazon’s “intern” interfered in one of Beth Phoenix’s matches. This week, with The Glamazon’s boyfriend Santino with her at ringside, Mendes distracted Candice to ensure Phoenix notched the victory. As a reward for a job well done, perhaps, Phoenix called Mendes into the ring, where the apprentice grabbed Candice and tossed her from the squared-circle.
Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase attack Shane and Stephanie McMahon
You just knew Randy Orton wouldn’t let it go. As Shane McMahon spoke with his sister Stephanie in a hallway of the Scottrade Center, Orton and his “Legacy” cohorts blindsided him, sending both McMahons to the floor. While building security attempted to break up the melee, Orton geared up to punt Shane in the skull. Instead, however, he turned and narrowed Stephanie in the crosshairs. Just as Orton was about to let fly, Shane jumped in at the last second and absorbed the blow with his back.
Kane & Mike Knox def. Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingston; Kane pins Rey
In what may prove to be a sneak peek at the World Heavyweight Title Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out, several of that match’s six participants – Mike Knox, Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston – competed tonight in a tag team bout. As Rey teamed up with Kofi, the two aerial sensations fended off the monstrous challenge of Knox and his partner, Kane. Perhaps wanting to prove himself among these Elimination Chamber qualifiers, Kane seized control of the match, pinning Rey and proving that Goliath doesn’t always falter to David.
Chris Jericho badmouths WWE Legends, John Cena tells him to pipe down
In the wake of last week’s aggressive overtures toward The Wrestler actor and Academy Award nominee Mickey Rourke on CNN’s Larry King Live, Chris Jericho lambasted a host of former WWE Legends, such as Ric Flair, referring to them as “has-beens.” Taking issue with Jericho’s rant, World Heavyweight Champion John Cena interrupted Jericho, reminding the bitter Superstar that without those men, none of the current Superstars would be here today. Cena then informed Jericho that when the two battle tonight, Cena will be beating Jericho for them, the WWE Legends.
Cryme Tyme def. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase by disqualification
After their underhanded attack on Shane McMahon was foiled earlier in the evening, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase were undoubtedly itching to prove their worth to “Legacy” ringleader Randy Orton. Rather than take on Shad & JTG fair and square, the “Priceless” pair instead opted to break the rules to get their point across. The two ended up laying out the Robbin’ Hoods but were disqualified for their efforts.
William Regal & Layla def. Intercontinental Champion CM Punk & Mickie James; Regal invokes rematch clause
With weeks of rumblings and billowing animosity behind William Regal and CM Punk, the top finally blew off between this pair two weeks ago. It was then, during their third match in as many weeks, that Punk captured the Intercontinental Championship from Regal in a No Disqualification Match. This week, with the help of Layla, Regal was able to overcome Punk and his partner, Mickie James. Perhaps feeling a shift in momentum, Regal invoked his rematch clause and will face Punk the following Monday night for the Intercontinental Title.
Shane McMahon accepts Randy Orton’s challenge for a No Holds Barred Match at No Way Out
After his adrenaline-fueled tirade last week, Shane McMahon opened tonight’s Raw by explaining his actions against Randy Orton. Having watched the Legend Killer punt his father’s skull, threaten to sue WWE and cancel WrestleMania, Shane felt compelled to take the action he did and was later confronted by Orton’s lawyers. Rather than sue, Orton proposed that Shane meet him in a No Holds Barred Match at No Way Out. Shane told the WWE Universe that he quickly agreed and is willing to sacrifice himself so that Orton will be in no condition to compete at WrestleMania.
That’s when Orton piped up. The Legend Killer sauntered toward the ring and told Shane that the only reason he managed to get the best of the three “Legacy” members was because they refused to fight back for fear of provoking the entire Raw roster who waited in the wings. As Orton spoke, DiBiase & Rhodes sprung from the audience to attack Shane, but the younger McMahon grabbed a kendo stick from under the ring and managed to fend off the 3-on-1 assault. With less than two weeks until No Way Out, simmering tensions among these four are set to boil.
